Where the Roses Grow
Words and Melody by
C. Aubrey McWatt, 2010
Music by Matt Gordeuk, 2014
'Eventide' - Oil, 12" x 12"
Where the roses grow in September,
Where the roses grow in September,
Where the roses grow in September,
Is where I long to be.
River flows in September,
Moon glows in September,
And heaven knows in September,
I need you in my arms.
September song, play on and on,
Sing before September’s gone,
September song, sweet music sound,
Play to the roses that abound.
Let me dream a dream in September,
Let me dream a dream in September,
Let me hold you close in September,
In that place where the roses grow.
A Song of Life
Words by C. Aubrey McWatt, 2009
Music by Robert Chalmers, 2010
(Adapted from a Swedish Folk Melody)
'Lifecycle I' - Oil, 40" x 30"
Oh, universe! When I in quiet wonder,
Consider all the worlds you call your own,
I see your stars; I hear your rolling thunder,
Such power contained, full discipline unknown.
Refrain:
Then sings my heart, that I am part of all,
A song of life, a song of life.
Then sings my heart, that I am part of all,
A song of life, a song of life.
When distant drums to march of seasons sound,
Their melody, their rhythm I hold in mind,
When trees I see, leaves dance to heart spellbound,
Elusive truth, I hope someday to find.
Refrain:
And now I know, I too am universe.
In unison, we share one breath that’s real,
Our forms we blend, in fellow humankind immerse.
Each other’s wounds. let’s strive to heal.
Refrain:
Powers that be, mysteries yet to be revealed,
When I with all, return from whence was hurled,
Then I shall bow to a fate forever sealed,
And hope my life has kissed the world.
Refrain:
Eres

'Cama Beach' - Oil, 10" x 8"
Si alguien me preguntaria,
Si alguien me pregunte a mi,
Si mas fondo amor mio pueda ser,
No lo podria contestar,
Mas d’este gran sentido,
No lo puedo imaginar.
En este momento puro que imagino yo,
En presencia tuyo haciendo el camino,
Escapa el tiempo y espacio no veridad,
Deseando yo que por ti tambiem,
Sientes el amor de una eternidad.
Center of the Universe
Words by C. Aubrey McWatt, 2008
Music for Choir by Jim Roberts, 2012
'Sensory Reality' - Oil, 18" x 18"
As a child, at the center of the universe I did reside,
And where I went it mattered not, for at the center I still stood tall.
From birth when hunger struck, caretaker with cry would I call,
In discomfort or desire, to be catered to I beckoned with scream.
After all, in the universe was only mother, then father,
Then joined others to frame my center, like a picture of my dream.
Now I have lived a time, from the center must I depart,
For in the distance from the center my space will I have found,
Then that same measure am I closer with compassion to be bound.
And to feel compassion in all its glory hurled,
At the farthest edge of the universe must I abide,
Giving up the center, and changing places with the world.
From the center to the fringe,
Doth the bridge of compassion span.
Where on that bridge I am, the fullness of my soul be measured,
For at the center am I empty,
And at the rim intensely pleasured.
Oh compassion, remote that I may apprehend all you mean,
But as bit by bit from the center I spring,
Then that much closer to the fringe I land.
As compassion both giver and receiver heals,
I ask myself, where on that bridge do you now stand?
Dance of the Trees
Words by C. Aubrey McWatt - 2009
Music for Choir by Jim Roberts (In Progress)
'Forest I' - Oil, 30" x 24"
For first time e’er, on yonder trees these eyes I laid,
Autumn gold, autumn green, autumn crimson, autumn brown,
And host of color in myriads to give,
Missing life before, in world too crowded by a rush to live.
For first time e’er, the leaves I heard today,
Singing every one to their own in their own homes,
Then with other trees, enjoined in a concert song,
Harmony melodious, birds too chirped along.
For first time e’er the forest danced for me,
The wind their music played, and set timing to their steps,
All in unison, but in movement no two turns the same,
Stop! Look! Listen! Sway to the ongoing dance of the trees.
One Summer Day
Words and Melody by
C. Aubrey McWatt, 2013
(Music Arrangement: TBD)
'Camano Afternoon' - Oil, 12" xx16"
One summer day
You come my way,
I take your hand in mine,
And feel a thrill divine.
I look at you,
And see my dream come true.
Lips of heady wine,
Our arms entwine.
Heaven’s heart reaches our way,
And weeps one summer day,
For heaven knows this moment strong
Will never last for long.
We knew then,
As we know now,
Soon it will be just a memory
To love, and to be loved.
Heaven’s heart reaches our way,
And weeps one summer day,
For heaven knows this moment strong
Will never last for long.
