Haiku Poems

Picture

The essence of haiku is "cutting" (kiru). This is often represented by the juxtaposition of two images or ideas and a kireji (cutting word) between them that signals the moment of separation.
Traditional haiku consist of 17 syllables (morae), in three phrases of 5, 7 and 5 respectively.

On Art
Fragile fades, art lives,

Photograph quick falls apart.
Departing, leave art.

On Beauty
Surface charms the mind,
Mirror hold to that within,
Thus true beauty find.

On Connecting
Intertwined we travel,
To the seen and unseen bound.
One center, one found.

 On Fire
This fire we light,
So at our core, join we might'
World's soul to ignite

   On Freedom
Separate we be,
Grow not in other’s shadow,
Or we live not free.

     On Generosity
  Dispensing largesse,
    From guilt to salvage conscience?
  Ponder and confess.

On Hypocrisy
Unknowing soul smiles,
Hand sincere extends,
Gut tears, heart defiles.

On Knowing
To keep pace with you,
With leaden feet shall I run,
One mile in your shoe.

On Life I
It is what it is,
Neither past nor future be,

But what now we see.

Haiku on Life II
It comes, simply goes,
Ghost of a dream must it leave,
Some left to bereave..

On Life III
To you, as to me,
Bringing heart with flame aglow,
If not now, when so?

On Life IV
If not this moment
Do we the spirit capture,
When then, my love, my rapture?

On Life V
With this wine I kiss,
The beloved of my dreams,
She my kiss redeems.

On Life VI
Finally discovered,
Such exquisite love to share,
Now a life of care.

On Life VII
Many more rounds to see,
Not certain, but hopeful be,
Stay thee now, with me.

On Life VIII
How do I love you,
That with you I long to be,
Through eternity?

On Life IX
On the moment dwell,
Life with so little given,
You, me, in heaven.

On Life X
When the world we mind,
Filtered not by steely heart,
Tethered lives we find.

On Life XI
Leave not this instant,
Nor flee moment to ensue,
Thus does life renew.

 Haiku on Life XII
Matters not how long,
But how much living we’ve done.
In our years, with fun.

 Haiku on Life XIII
Slumber on my child,
Awake to days of wonder,
May your storms be mild.
